Obituary for Dorothy Sellmeyer (Boling)

Dorothy Sellmeyer

Dorothy (Dot) Sellmeyer, 91, Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Cameron, Missouri passed away on January 20, 2019. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, at 10:00 am at the First Christian Church in Cameron, Missouri followed by funeral services at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow at Graceland Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 23th at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.

Dot was born on September 24, 1927 outside Slater, Missouri to Carl and Lucy Bolling who preceded her in death. She graduated Slater High School in 1945. Dot, and her husband Joe, who proceeded her in death in 1992, lived in Brookfield, Missouri for several years and moved to Cameron, Missouri in 1964. She worked at Blackwood’s Department Store for many years before retiring. Dot made her home in Cameron until moving to an assisted living facility in Overland Park to be near her daughter in 2011.

She was a long time member of the First Christian Church, Cameron, where she also belonged to the greeter club. She is survived by son Ron (Carolyn) Sellmeyer, Goodyear, AZ; daughter Lisa (Rick) Vaughn, Overland Park; brother Garry (Betty) Boling, Blue Springs, MO; and 4 grandchildren, Hilary (Marty) Werner, Gilbert, AZ; Jeff (Shannon) Sellmeyer, Anthem, AZ; Kaitlin (Sarah) Vaughn, Prairie Village, KS; Lindsay Vaughn, Mission, KS; and 2 great-grandchildren, Maks and Zane Sellmeyer. Gene Boner was also a special friend to Dot before he passed in 1999.

The family extends special thanks to the Bickford Assisted Living family, Catholic Community Hospice, and Home Instead Senior Care. Memorial donations may be sent to the First Christian Church. Online condolences for the family may be left at

Dot loved old country music, Elvis Presley, bright red geraniums, collecting angels, the Kansas City Royals, kitty cats, all things chocolate, her many special friends, the years she spent in Cameron, and above all her family. She always said there was nothing better than time spent with family. You be a good girl granny! We love you so very much.
